So I think this makes me officially the last of the new admins to actually post anything up here, though I could be wrong.  I haven’t really got much to say, just mentioning that I’ll be adding my art to the Art o’ the Day section now.  I know I’m not really as good as some of the others who’ve posted there in the past, but I hope you still enjoy my art, for what it’s worth.  Who knows?  Maybe someday someone will wander through this site and get inspiration from my art, in the same way that I once got it from the original Crew all those years ago.

Got word today that my flash-fiction story “The Negotiation” was accepted for publication.

I’ll post all the details of when and where it will appear as soon as I have them.

Happy, happy, joy, joy.....

Just saw Hellboy: The Golden Army with Rude and we both left the film feeling the same way.  You can check out what that way was here.

Kinda like building a lightsaber updatedendcap

Sorry I haven’t been posting much. I don’t like neglecting this place and you have my deepest apologies.

I’ve been buried in the search for good prices on some hardware. This computer has about had it, so I’m finally going to get around to doing something I’ve wanted to do since I got my A+ cert. I’m going to build a new one from just the parts.

For the tech geeks here, I’m either going to make you very happy, or freak out and whine about my choices. I’ll update this with the exact specs sometime later… because I don’t have my parts list in front of me.  Some of the base specifications though are 2 750 GB hard drives, 1 80 GB Hard Drive (1.58 TB total), 3 GB DDRII SDRAM (might go with more, it’s cheap), and a 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core processor. EDIT. Parts list below.

*waits for the hiss about the Intel chip* I’ve been using Intel processors for a long time. I thought about going AMD… but decided to stick with what I was used to. Maybe next build, I do have plans to build a super tiny one in an old SNES body to see if I can do it. I think of that like building a ship in a bottle.

So far the hardest thing about this is not the hardware, but the software. Trying to find Windows XP 64 bit edition is like trying to find a leprechaun, bigfoot, and Santa Clause in a bar hitting on a waitress. I’d go with a flavor of Linux, but then my current copy of Photoshop would be useless. ... do they even make it for Linux? Maybe I’ll go with GIMP instead. Why not go Vista? ... Do I really need to answer myself?

Is It Just Me?endcap
Posted by raven on 07/16/08 at 08:00 AM

I reported last week that I had started a micro-poetry blog on Twitter.

I hate to make another post here just to call specific attention to something I...well posted, but I just have to know if anyone else besides me found this amusing or if I’m just a hopeless pun nerd.

I’m guessing it’s the latter, but I’ll let you all make the call.

I’m not dead.endcap

Hey, I survived the move!  Yes, I am officially ensconced in the sleepy little town of Spring Valley, IL, population 5400.  Of course, it took Comcast two freaking weeks to set up my internet, but at last, I am connected to the world again.  Huzzah!

So, as Magi asked me, what is it like to personally increase the size of a town by almost a full percentage point?  Interesting, to say the least.  There’s no more running out at 1am for a taco:  they pretty much roll up the sidewalks by about 9pm.  It’s actually easy to make an unprotected left turn onto a busy road at 5:30 PM on a weekday, which is novel to the extreme.  My 9 year old son is finally learning to ride a bike.  I have to drive 15 minutes to get to a real grocery store, or a Blockbuster, or a restaurant that serves something other than variations of Heart Attack On A Plate (fried pork tenderloin sandwich is my fave) All in all, I’m not in Kansas anymore.  Or rather, I AM in Kansas for the first time.

All I have to do now is avoid getting addicted to WoW like all my co-workers. grin
